Brian Joseph is an investigative reporter based in Sacramento, Calif. He currently serves as the Sacramento Bureau Chief for The Orange County Register, where he writes about the governor and State Legislature, and blogs about government waste and state politics. Brian previously worked for The Sacramento Bee and, before that, The Desert Sun in Palm Springs, Calif.

As an intern at The Seattle Times, Brian co-authored an investigation into art fraud that won the 2003 George Polk Award for Local Reporting. As a student at the Missouri School of Journalism, Brian also worked as a researcher and assistant instructor of computer-assisted reporting at Investigative Reporters and Editors and served on the national board of directors of the Society of Professional Journalists.

A native of Omaha, Neb., Brian is interested in stories about social injustice and in pairing investigative reporting with storytelling and narrative journalism.
